The place
Our lovely and rustic cabin is situated at the lake Skogsfjordvatnet at Ringvassøya - on the countryside - not far from Tromsø. This area offers wonderful possibilities for skiing, fishing, hiking, hunting and watching the northern light. It is a quiet and undisturbed property with an amazing view. We can help our guests with information about access, use of house, shopping locally, recommendations of different activities and tour-operators. The road up to the cabin is plowed in winter. The cabin is heated with electricity. The cabin also has an open fireplace that can be used by the guests.

About us
We are a married couple with two children age 9-12 and six Siberian huskies. We live at Håkøya an island outside Tromsø in beautiful Northern Norway. We enjoy outdoor activities including mushing, canicross, mountain hiking, skiing, fishing and hunting. We really like and respect the idea of entering a home and not just a hotel-room. Our perspective in hosting travelers to our cabin at Ringvassøya - an island north of Tromsø - is to offer the rustic, warm and natural experience that we treasure in our own lives. Dogs are part of our lives and are also of course also welcome to our cabin.

House rules
It is expected that the house is vacuumed and left as neat and tidy as when you arrive. The kitchen should be made - with dishes done by guests before departure. The house is a strictly no smoking-zone and we ask smokers to deposit cigarette-buts in a tray and not throw them around the house. Towels and linens for the beds are included in the price.

The purpose of this blog
We have created this blog to provide our guests with information about access, use of house, shopping locally, recommendations of different activities and tour-operators.

How to get there

Turn left to find our cabin. The cabin (inside the circle on the above photo) is situated up the road from the lake Skogsfjordvatnet.

Directions via google map from Tromsø Airport to our cabin is found here

Cross over the bridge to Kvaløya. Then take right to the north. Follow the road straight. Through the tunnel to Ringvassøya. Continue to drive straigth (do not take of right to Hansens, do not take right to Dåfjorden). Arriving at the lake Skogsfjordvatnet look for a parkinglot with lots of big, white agriculture bags. Then take the first road up to your right.

Distance 67 km. Takes about one hour to drive in summer. Longer in winter.

Be aware that winter roads in northern Norway can be challenging. We advice to rent a good winter car with good winter tires. As there might might be both icy and slippery snow on the road during the winter season.

You will need a car - there is no public transportation.

We are on facebook. Look us up there.

Local food - deli shops

Food shops in Tromsø / outside Tromsø

The cabin is situated at the country side. We advice to buy food before departing from the Tromsø area.

My favorite shop is sitated at Kvaløya - Eidkjosen about 20 minutes from the airport and is called Eide Handel. See web page here.

Downtown Troms you find Mathallen.

Close to the airport you find a big chopping mall called Jekta. There you can find a good local fisherman and also a local delishop:

DragøyHelmersen Delikatesser

You also find a big food shop there called Coop OBS Jekta.

At Jekta you can also buy wine (wine can only be bought at Vinmonopolet in Norway) and beer.

Food shops at Hansnes (at Ringvassøya)
If you run out of food or discover that you forgot to get something in town, it is possible to drive to a small community called Hansnes about 30 minutes from the cabin. They have two small food stores:

SPAR
Phone 77 74 73 00
Open until 22:00 in the evening

ICA
Phone 77 74 75 85
Open until 22:00 in the evening

Fishing at Ringvassøya

Our little daughter fishing on the ice of the lake Skogsfjordvatnet just below our cabin during Easter.

Char and trout fishing on the lake Skogsfjordvatnet on Ringvassøya in Karlsøy

The area around our cabin is stunning which with fishing lakes and beautiful hiking all year round. Although mid winter during the long winter night - you will need a headlight to find your way apart from in the middle of the day. Good ice fishing conditions in winter when the sun returns.

You will need to bring your own fishing equipment for this.
